Tim Rattay, MBChB, PhD, FRCS, University of Leicester, Leicester, UK, reports on an explainable artificial intelligence (AI) prediction model for arm lymphedema. The PRE-ACT project combines information from machine learning, clinicians, surgeons and oncologists working in breast cancer to create a prediction model for side effects of radiotherapy after surgery. The model for significant arm lymphedema obtained high prediction accuracy using only patient and treatment parameters. Introduction of imaging and genomic data may further increase the accuracy, and high risk patients may then take preventative measures. This interview took place at the 14th European Breast Cancer Conference (EBCC) in Milan, Italy.
