ASCO 2017 | How can healthcare professionals help patients quit smoking?

Judith Prochaska, PhD, MPH, of the Stanford Prevention Research Center, Stanford, CA, talks about how as a healthcare professional, one can help a patient quit smoking. She explains that it very important to give the advice to quit. There are many ways to give advice to patients as tobacco use can affect almost every organ in the body. Therefore, giving up cigarettes is important for cancer prevention, for heart disease prevention, diabetes prevention and many more diseases. Doctors must ensure patients know why it is important to quit and must point them to different types of resources, both medications and support groups, including social media based groups.
