ESMO 2024 | Emerging treatment strategies in EGFR-mutant NSCLC: osimertinib combinations and beyond
Nicolas Girard, MD, Institut Curie, Paris, France, discusses recent advancements in the treatment of EGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), particularly first-line therapies involving osimertinib. Escalation strategies, such as combining chemotherapy with osimertinib or using dual EGFR inhibition, such as amivantamab and lazertinib in the MARIPOSA study (NCT04487080), show promise in improving patient outcomes. While resistance mechanisms, including MET activation and secondary EGFR mutations, differ between approaches, newer combinations are changing the molecular trajectory of the disease, potentially extending overall survival in patients. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
