Radu Vidra, MD, PhD, Regional Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Octavian Fodor, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, discusses the growing relevance of liquid biopsy in oncology, particularly within academic centers. Though not yet widely used in primary and secondary centers, liquid biopsy offers a valuable alternative in cases where tissue biopsy is not feasible, such as patients with resistant mutations or high surgical risk. Despite its cost-related challenges, it is used in cases where patients are too ill for repeat tissue sampling, making it an increasingly favored tool in daily oncology practice. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
