ESMO 2024 | MATADOR: immune gene profiles in tailoring breast cancer treatment

Sabine Linn, MD, PhD, Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands, comments on the Phase III MATADOR trial (ISRCTN61893718), which analyzed gene expression to guide therapy in patients with breast cancer. The trial, which compared TAC (docetaxel, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide) with ddAC (dose-dense doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide), identified an immune gene profile linked to improved recurrence-free survival (RFS) with TAC in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). High stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes further predicted longer RFS with TAC, emphasizing immune profiling’s potential to personalize adjuvant regimens in TNBC. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
