ESMO 2024 | Genetic risk factors for checkpoint inhibitor-related endocrine toxicities

Christian Thorball, PhD, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV), Lausanne, Switzerland, discusses the association between genetic predispositions and the development of endocrine immune-related adverse events, including thyroid dysfunction, type 1 diabetes, and hypophysitis, in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Polygenic risk scores (PRS) for hypothyroidism and type 1 diabetes were significantly linked to increased risks for the aforementioned conditions. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
