ASCO GI 2025 | The role of sintilimab with CRT and chemotherapy in ESCC

Xuefeng Leng, MD, PhD, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China, discusses the evolving landscape of immunotherapy in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and other solid tumours. While immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have shown promising results in clinical trials across first-line, second-line , and neoadjuvant settings, there is still a lack of extensive research comparing different drugs. Dr Leng comments on previous short-term data on pathological complete response (pCR) rates and presents a new study combining sintilimab with chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and chemotherapy to achieve high pCR rates. While there is currently no definitive data on which combination is superior, ongoing studies may provide further insights on these treatments in the future. This interview took place at the ASCO GI Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
