Tim Rattay, MBChB, PhD, FRCS, University of Leicester, Leicester, UK, discusses the growing interest of patients in understanding the effects of treatment and their potential long-term outcomes. Developments of patient apps are increasingly being used in practice and trials to provide personalized support and information to patients. Explainable artificial intelligence (AI) can also build trust with clinicians and patients, by providing clear explanations for predictions and risk factors. This interview took place at the 2025 St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Consensus Meeting in Vienna, Austria.
