Marleen Kok, MD, PhD, Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands, discusses the emerging role of immunotherapy in ER-positive breast cancer, noting that while there have been significant increases in progression-free survival (PFS) for patients with this type of cancer, the survival data is still pending. However, biomarker data from studies such as CheckMate 7FL (NCT04109066) and KEYNOTE-756 (NCT03725059) suggest that PD-L1 expression and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are key factors in determining the benefit of immunotherapy. Further research is needed to fully understand the relationship between gene expression, immune cell infiltration, and treatment outcomes in ER-positive breast cancer. This interview took place at the 2025 St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Consensus Meeting in Vienna, Austria.
