Icro Meattini, MD, University of Florence, Florence, Italy, highlights the significance of two late-breaking abstracts presented at the European Society of Radiation Oncology (ESTRO) annual meeting. Dr Meattini emphasizes that moderate hypofractionation in patients with high-risk non-metastatic breast cancer is not inferior to conventional fractionation in terms of lymphedema, and that a Phase III trial demonstrated the equivalence of moderate hypofractionation to standard care. Additionally, a 10-year update of the Phase III FAST-Forward trial (ISRCTN19906132) confirmed the equivalence of one-week whole-breast irradiation to moderately hypofractionated whole-breast irradiation in terms of local control, toxicity, safety, and survival outcomes, making these trials practice-changing for patient-centered care. This interview took place at the ESTRO 2025 congress in Vienna, Austria.
