SABCS 2025 | Pathological characterization of rare tumor types in breast cancer

Sunil Badve, MD, FRCPath, Emory School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, describes the challenges of characterizing rare breast cancer tumor types, highlighting the issues of subjectivity in histology-based categorization and the presence of multiple non-targetable mutations. While histology is commonly used for categorization, it can be subjective, and combining clinical data, immunohistochemistry, molecular tools, and artificial intelligence (AI) can help decrease subjectivity and improve diagnosis. This interview took place at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) 2025 Meeting in San Antonio, TX.
