ASCO 2026 | Real-world treatment patterns and OS in R/M HNSCC following ICI and platinum-based chemotherapy

Ari Rosenberg, MD, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL, discusses the real-world patterns and overall survival (OS) in recurrent/metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (R/M HNSCC) following iimmune checkpoint inhibitor and platinum-based chemotherapy, highlighting that the median OS for patients with HPV-negative head and neck cancer is approximately six months, and nine months for those with HPV-positive disease, after progressing on frontline treatment. Dr Rosenberg notes that these results are sobering and indicate a significant unmet need for improved therapies in this population. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
