VJVirtual | Risk stratification with nomograms improves decision-making in localized sarcoma

Javier Martin-Broto, MD, PhD, Fundación Jimenez Diaz University Hospital, Madrid, Spain, emphasizes the utility of nomograms in risk stratification for sarcoma patients with localized disease, particularly those with limb and trunk wall, and retroperitoneal tumors. Dr Martin-Broto notes that the nomogram is the most validated and personalized tool for predicting the risk of recurrence and mortality, and that a threshold of 40% risk of death by sarcoma at 10 years is commonly used to guide perioperative chemotherapy recommendations for patients with high-risk subtypes such as UPS, synovial sarcoma, and myxoid liposarcoma. This approach is particularly relevant for patients with these subtypes, which represent 80% of primary sarcoma tumors in limbs or trunk. This interview was recorded via an online conference call with The Video Journal of Oncology (VJOncology).
