Isabelle Demeestere, MD, PhD, Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Brussels, Belgium, highlights the emerging use of targeted cancer therapies and their potential reproductive health impacts. While these drugs are generally less gonadotoxic than standard chemotherapy, there is still limited data on their long-term effects on ovarian and sperm function. Fertility counseling is essential for young patients undergoing targeted therapies, as these treatments may pose risks such as teratogenicity or pregnancy delays, making contraception discussions necessary during treatment. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
