Cicero Urban, MD, PhD, Hospital Nossa Senhora das Gracas, Curitiba, Brazil, discusses the evolving approach to axillary surgery, driven by recent trial data. Findings from the SOUND (NCT02167490) and INSEMA (NCT02466737) trials suggest that sentinel node biopsy may be omitted in select patients with early-stage breast cancer. Additionally, the SENOMAC trial (NCT02240472) supports omitting axillary node dissection in certain cases with sentinel node metastases. These results contribute to a shift toward less invasive management, reducing morbidity while maintaining oncologic safety. This interview took place at the 2025 St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Consensus Meeting in Vienna, Austria.
