Maria Teresa Landi, MD, PhD, National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD, discusses key findings from the Sherlock-Lung study, including genomic features that distinguish lung cancer in never smokers from those who smoked and across different ancestries. Dr Landi additionally proposes a framework for understanding the development of lung cancer in smokers, particularly lung adenocarcinoma subtypes, and suggest that differences in cells of origin may contribute to the distinct characteristics of lung cancer in smokers versus non-smokers and across different populations. This interview took place at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2026 in San Diego, CA.
