ASCO 2024 | Young-PEARL: palbociclib plus exemestane and OFS in HR+/HER2- breast cancer

Yeon Hee Park, MD, Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea, discusses updated survival outcomes from the Phase II Young-PEARL study (NCT02592746) of exemestane plus palbociclib with ovarian function suppression (OFS) versus capecitabine in premenopausal patients with metastatic HR+/HER2- breast cancer. With a median follow-up of 54.8 months, the study confirmed improved progression-free survival (PFS) with exemestane plus palbociclib. However, overall survival (OS) did not differ significantly between the two groups. The safety profiles of both treatments were manageable, with higher rates of grade 3 or more adverse events in the palbociclib group. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
