Paul van Schil, MD, PhD, University Hospital Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium, discusses the role of chemoimmunotherapy in surgical practice, emphasizing the importance of understanding when to administer preoperatively or postoperatively chemotherapy and chemoimmunotherapy. He cautions against administering preoperative chemoimmunotherapy to all patients, as large trials have shown that some patients with initially resectable disease may die due to complications. Thus, selecting the right patients and making informed decisions is crucial for optimizing treatment outcomes. This interview took place at the 2024 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in San Diego, CA.
