BTOG 2022 | QoL changes following a lung cancer diagnosis

Matthew Evison, MD, University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, UK, gives an overview of quality of life (QoL) changes a patients with lung cancer may go through following a diagnosis. QoL for the patient may decline due to the physiological burden of receiving a cancer diagnosis, physical symptoms such as breathlessness and long term weight loss, and financial pressures. Dr Evison additionally emphasizes the non-curative nature of surgery, where patients may face long-term issues relating to having lung tissue removed, as well as the need for patients to make long-term fitness improvements as a result of surgery. This interview took place at the 20th Annual British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) Conference 2022.
