Hildur Helgadottir, MD, PhD, Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, explores the long-term effects of sun protection campaigns initiated in the mid-1990s, which emphasized protecting children from sunburns. These efforts have led to a significant reduction in the incidence of severe sunburns in children, a trend that is now reflected in lower melanoma rates among younger adults. However, while the campaigns have successfully influenced child protection, there remains room for improvement in encouraging sun safety practices among adults to reduce melanoma risk further. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
