AACR 2026 | Biomarkers and AI approaches to improve lung cancer screening accuracy

Maria Teresa Landi, MD, PhD, National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD, highlights the importance of identifying specific biomarkers for lung cancer screening, particularly in high-risk populations such as women and East Asian individuals between the ages of 50 to 74. Identifying aggressive and indolent tumors are needed to develop effective screening strategies, and genomics, cell of origin, epigenetics, and AI may play a crucial role in identifying sensitive biomarkers. This interview took place at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2026 in San Diego, CA.
