Oleg Gluz, MD, Evang. Krankenhaus “”Bethesda”” Klinik, Mönchengladbach, Germany, discusses the 5-year survival outcomes of the WSG TP-II trial, which investigated de-escalated treatment strategies in patients with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-positive early breast cancer. The trial compared neoadjuvant endocrine therapy plus trastuzumab and pertuzumab with a shorter 12-week chemotherapy regimen, followed by trastuzumab and pertuzumab for one year. Patients with a pathological complete response (pCR) after 12 weeks of de-escalated treatment were recommended to omit further chemotherapy, while those with residual disease received additional chemotherapy. Results demonstrated no significant difference in survival between the groups, supporting the safety of starting with de-escalated therapies and limiting chemotherapy based on pCR. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
