WCLC 2023 | Advancements in the UK’s national screening programme for lung cancer

David Baldwin, MD FRCP, Nottingham City Hospital, Nottingham, UK, shares the recent developments in lung cancer screening in the UK. The screening programme began with a national pilot at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and has resulted in a rapid roll-out. 10-15% of the eligible population has been covered and all targeted individuals are aimed to be screened by 2028. Current figures show a promising outlook, where over 2,200 cases have been detected through the programme and approximately a quarter being stage I/II lung cancer. Dr Baldwin reports that the current data demonstrates the positive impact of a targeted screening programme. This interview took place at the 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) in Singapore, Singapore.
