ASCO 2024 | PanaMa: comparing maintenance and non-maintenance strategies in CRC

Dominik Paul Modest, MD, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Berlin, Germany, discusses the potential biological mechanisms in colorectal cancer (CRC) behind the difference in progression free survival (PFS) at re-induction between the maintenance and non-maintenance arms of the PanaMa trial (NCT01991873). Continuing panitumumab, an anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antibody, may promote the development of resistant clones into a resistant tumor, which may render re-induction therapy less effective. Prof. Modest highlights that this would need to be biologically proven using biopsies. This interview took place during the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
