ASCO 2026 | PD-1 inhibitor maintenance vs observation after cCR in dMMR/MSI-H CRC
Filippo Pietrantonio, MD, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milan, Italy, examines the necessity of maintenance PD-1 inhibitor therapy following clinical complete response (cCR) in patients with mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR)/microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) colorectal cancer (CRC) managed non-operatively. Maintenance therapy did not provide a clear survival advantage over observation, but was associated with a greater burden of immune-related toxicity, supporting treatment discontinuation with close surveillance after cCR. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
