ASCO 2021 | The Duma Lab: Investigating social justice, gender bias and racial discrimination in medicine

Narjust Duma, MD, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI, shares the work of the Duma Lab presented at ASCO 2021. The Duma Lab has over 29 members from institutions across the globe, focusing on lung cancer, social justice, gender bias and racial discrimination in medicine. Dr Duma discusses the findings of several abstracts presented by the group, including race and gender representation in oncology journals’ editorial boards, self-reported gender bias encountered by hematology and oncology fellows, and gender and racial/ethnic disparities in academic oncology leadership. Dr Duma also discusses the OCEAN study investigating women’s career choices about oncology, and the HOLA COVID-19 study, assessing the impact of COVID-19 on work related fatigue and satisfaction among oncology providers in Latin America. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2021 Virtual Meeting.
