SITC 2022 | Acute kidney injury in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors

Shruti Gupta, MD, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA, discusses the risk factors and treatment strategies for immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated acute kidney injury. Lower baseline EGFR levels, lower kidney function, proton pump inhibitors, and existing immune adverse advents were risk factors identified in a study comparing patients who have received checkpoint inhibitors and kidney injury with those who have not. Treatment strategies including steroids and retreating patients have demonstrated a reduced risk of further kidney damage. This interview took place at the 37th Annual Meeting of the Society for Immunotherapy in Cancer (SITC 2022) in Boston, MA.
