ESMO 2024 | Exploring the impact of gut microbiota on immunotherapy response in renal cell carcinoma

Chiara Ciccarese, MD, Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS, Rome, Italy, discusses preliminary data on the influence of gut microbiota composition on immunotherapy response in various cancers, including renal cell carcinoma. Strategies such as dietary interventions and microbiota products show potential in modifying gut microbiota to restore immunotherapy response. Although fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has been studied in melanoma, the Phase II TACITO trial (NCT04758507) marks the first exploration of FMT in kidney cancer. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
