ESMO 2024 | POD1UM-303: retifanlimab and chemotherapy in anal carcinoma

Dominik Modest, MD, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Berlin, Germany, discusses the Phase III POD1UM-303 trial (NCT04472429) of retifanlimab, a PD-1 inhibitor, with standard chemotherapy in treatment-naïve patients with locally recurrent/metastatic squamous cell anal carcinoma (SCAC). Adding retifanlimab significantly improved progression-free compared to chemotherapy alone. Retifanlimab also showed a favorable safety profile without disrupting chemotherapy administration, suggesting its potential as a new first-line standard of care for SCAC. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
