ELCC 2024 | The importance of understanding the patient perspective in evaluating treatment efficacy

Joshua Sabari, MD, from NYU Langone Health in New York, NY, emphasizes the importance of understanding the patient perspective in evaluating treatment efficacy. In discussing the Phase III PAPILLON (NCT04538664) trial of amivantamab plus chemotherapy versus chemotherapy as first-line treatment in EGFR Exon 20 insertion-mutated advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), Dr Sabari highlights the significance of patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Beyond traditional endpoints like objective response rate, progression-free survival, and overall survival, PROs provide insights into how patients benefit from therapy on an individual level. Secondary endpoints of PAPILLON trial included time to symptomatic progression and various patient-reported outcomes. Dr Sabari underscores the importance of these measures in assessing the tangible impact of treatment on patients’ quality of life and decision-making processes. This interview took place at the ELCC 2024 meeting in Prague, Czech Republic.
