ESMO 2024 | Navigating escalation and de-escalation strategies in immunotherapy for NSCLC

Nicolas Girard, MD, Institut Curie, Paris, France, highlights the evolving trends in first-line treatment for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Combination therapies incorporating checkpoint inhibitors, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and bispecific antibodies are aimed at improving progression-free and overall survival. De-escalation approaches like the NIVAHL study (NCT03004833), which reduces pembrolizumab doses, additionally show no loss in efficacy. This dual approach underscores the need for personalized immunotherapy, potentially driven by biomarkers, to optimize treatment for individual patients. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
