ESMO 2024 | Metagenomic analysis of microbiota to guide FMT in patients with cancer

Chiara Ciccarese, MD, Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS, Rome, Italy, outlines a study involving metagenomic characterization of both donor and patient microbiota in the fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), which was assessed in the Phase II TACITO trial (NCT04758507). By analyzing stool samples before and after treatment, the goal is to identify patients with poor microbiota composition who would benefit most from FMT, paving the way for personalized microbiota-based therapies. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
