BTOG 2025 | Improving lung cancer care: initiatives to reduce unwarranted variation

David Baldwin, MD, FRCP, Nottingham City Hospital, Nottingham, UK, comments on the initiatives that have been undertaken to reduce unwarranted variation in cancer care. Dr Baldwin highlights the importance of initiatives such as the national peer review process, the National Lung Cancer Audit, and the development of care quality indicators, including dashboards and performance targets. He also mentions the Clinical Expert Group for Lung Cancer’s advice to Alliances in 2017, which emphasized the need for a more global responsibility for care and the importance of clearly defining the amount of clinical time and expertise required to deliver a lung cancer service, which has now been expanded to include clinical times for all specialties. This interview took place at the BTOG 2025 congress in Belfast, UK.
