BTOG 2025 | Emerging drug designs and strategies in lung cancer treatment

Anna Minchom, MD, BCh, MB, MRCP, from The Royal Marsden Hospital, London, UK, discusses emerging drug designs in lung cancer treatment, particularly antibody therapies with masking mechanisms that activate in specific biological environments. She highlights ongoing research into pre-medications, such as steroids, and their potential impact on drug efficacy, as well as strategies for managing cytokine release syndrome (CRS) using interleukin blockers like tocilizumab. Additionally, she notes the potential for combining these novel drugs with immune checkpoint inhibitors like pembrolizumab, though single-agent efficacy and tolerability data are needed before pursuing combination approaches. This interview took place at the BTOG 2025 congress in Belfast, UK.
