ELCC 2025 | Increasing equity in lung screening in high-risk populations

David Baldwin, MD, FRCP, Nottingham City Hospital, Nottingham, United Kingdom, comments on the challenges and opportunities of improving lung cancer screening in high-risk populations, particularly those from socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. There is a need to address the low participation rates in these groups, but tailored approaches may not be as effective as using primary care doctor invitations and reminders, as seen in the Lung Screen Uptake Trial (Lung-SCREEN) (NCT02558101). However, novel screening programs has shown remarkable effects on equity, with a shift in the socio-demographic profile of lung cancer diagnoses, reducing socioeconomic inequity. This interview took place at the European Lung Cancer Congress (ELCC) 2025 in Paris, France.
