ASCO 2025 | Evaluating atezolizumab in early-stage and limited-stage lung cancer

Shankar Siva, PhD, MBBS, FRANZCR, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia, provides an overview of two randomized trials assessing the role of atezolizumab in curative-intent lung cancer settings. The Phase III SWOG/NRG S1914 trial (NCT04214262) found no survival benefit when atezolizumab was added to stereotactic body radiation therapy in high-risk, early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with increased toxicity observed. Separately, a Phase II study (NCT03540420) in limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC) showed no progression-free or overall survival advantage when atezolizumab was administered following chemoradiotherapy. This interview took place during the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
