ASCO 2026 | PREPEC (OPBC-02): pre-pectoral vs sub-pectoral IBBR after mastectomy

Walter Weber, MD, University Hospital Basel, Basel, Switzerland, discusses findings from the Phase III PREPEC (OPBC-02) trial (NCT04293146) comparing pre-pectoral and sub-pectoral implant-based breast reconstruction (IBBR) following mastectomy for breast cancer treatment or prevention. Pre-pectoral IBBR significantly improved long-term quality of life compared with sub-pectoral IBBR, though at the cost of a higher risk of implant loss or replacement, informing surgical decision-making in this setting. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
