ESTRO 2026 | Can radiotherapy treatment burden be reduced for patients with lung cancer?

Shalini Vinod, MBBS, MD, University of New South Wales, Liverpool, Australia, describes the motivation for a Phase III randomized study of hypofractionated radiotherapy of 55GY in 20 fractions against 60-66Gy in 30-33 fractions with concurrent chemotherapy and followed by immunotherapy in unresectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Many lung cancer patients are older, present with comorbidities and struggle with location access. This study aims to reduce the treatment burden of radiotherapy through shortening the treatment regimen. This interview took place at the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology 2026 Congress in Stockholm, Sweden.
