VJVirtual | “Bridging the Gap”: 3 key recommendations from UKLCC report on inequalities in lung cancer care

Neal Navani • 3 Nov 2022

Neal Navani, MA, MRCP, MSc, PhD, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, discusses three key recommendations from the UK Lung Cancer Coalition (UKLCC) report “”Bridging the Gap””, which highlights inequalities among patients with lung cancer in the UK. The first of these recommendations is establishing a UK-wide data strategy to understand inequalities in lung cancer, which will help with the second recommendation of improving how inequalities data collected by the National Lung Cancer Audit (NLCA) is reported back to NHS trusts for them to act upon. The third recommendation is on the importance of a thorough Holistic Needs Assessment for each lung cancer patient, which will help healthcare professionals to understand how best to support each patient with their individual needs throughout their treatment, leading to improved outcomes and quality of life.
